2nd call in 24 hours for Filey Inshore Lifeboat

Filey’s inshore lifeboat was called out for a second time in less than 24 hours yesterday evening (Sunday 26 November).

At 5.30pm, UK Coastguard (Humber) requested the launch of Filey’ s inshore lifeboat (ILB) , Braund, to assist Filey Coastguard Rescue Team and North Yorkshire Police search for an 80 year old male who had been reported missing in the Primrose Valley area just south of Filey.

A few minutes later, in complete darkness and in a rough sea, the ILB launched on service with Neil Cammish, Alex Harrison and Vanessa Thomas as crew.

In view of the weather conditions, it was decided that Filey’s relief all-weather lifeboat (ALB), Bingo Lifeline, should be prepared to launch to assist. However just as the ALB was being made ready, a report was received that the gentleman had been found safely ashore by the rescue teams.

The ILB returned to station and was made ready for service just after 6pm.

John Ward, Lifeboat Press Officer said: “It has been a busy weekend for us and we have launched the ILB very quickly on both occasions as weather conditions have been quite poor over the whole weekend with very cold temperatures and heavy seas.”
